European building and urban stock data collection
The Task Identification and collection of existing data devises a set of robust criteria for identifying data that will be taken into consideration during the research, such as buildings age, typology, social appropriation, geographical location, energy uses, demand and behaviour.

Assessment of European and national policies related to energy efficiency and heritage conservation
This paper establishes an overview of the legal status and policies on an International, European and national level, in situations where energy performance requirements are applied to historic buildings, groups of buildings and urban districts, for the purposes of improving their energy efficiency and facilitating energy supply from renewable sources. In particular, the effect of the EPB Directive on the national legislation is examined, and whether there are any legal conflicts.

Database of the structured categorisation method for historic European building stock
This report presents the results of the Task Development of the structured organisation and categorisation method of the EFFESUS project. The objective of Task was to develop a structured organization and categorisation method in order to make a statistical representation of the European historic buildings and districts.

Collection of Best Practices
The objective of this Work Task has been to collect best practices examples and relevant initiatives of retrofit interventions at building and district scales that will inform the EFFESUS project repository.

Historic district geographical information system
This paper introduces the actual state of the studied neighborhood in Santiago de Compostela from two different points of view. The first one describes the buildings from a static point of view, looking at their typologies, orientations, materials, and the existing construction problems providing different theoretically evaluated solutions that define an acceptable starting point to compare the results of a smart neighborhood control. The second one looks at the problem from the generation point of view and more specifically from the renewable energy potentials of Santiago, studying the solar thermal and photovoltaic energy potential for different buildings, and the biomass energy potentials of Santiago de Compostela.

Result integration strategy
This paper is the results of the task “Result integration strategy” of the Work Package “Conceptualisation, results integration and strategies for decision making” of the project EFFESUS. The specific objective of this task is to develop the conceptual preparation of the project´s results by designing the strategy for their integration in order to offer a strategic decision support.

Transferable models
This report presents the results of task “Transferable Models” of the EFFESUS project. The objective of this task was to develop a method to characterise historic districts and their buildings when the available information is limited.

Interconnection between district, building and components levels
This paper describes the interconnection between different influences in an urban district. The task has been designed to analyse the impact that various performance enhancing measures will have on cultural heritage in historic buildings and districts.

Decision Support System
The Effesus DSS is an innovative system for the assessment of energy-related interventions in built cultural heritage at building and district level. It helps the users to select and prioritize energy interventions, with full respect to the historical significance of the buildings. The main target group of the EFFESUS DSS are the municipalities and urban managers responsible for improving the sustainability of the historic district and guiding the stakeholders in this process. This document provides a brief description of the system functionality and can be used as the first version of the users’ manual.

Outline of energy certification system
This report provides an overview of the Energy Performance Certificate of the EFFESUS case studies countries, as well as EU projects, certification methods and tools for districts and historic buildings.
The matching between EFFESUS key performance indicators developed under the project and indicators of the seven commercial methodologies of the district certification show that almost all existing methodologies are mostly focused on the environmental aspect rarely taking into account economic aspects or energy consumption. Therefore, a new holistic certification such as the EFFESUS approach is recommended for future evaluation of energy efficiency for historic districts.

Energy Efficiency in European historic urban districts – A practical guidance.
It provides insights into the main results and findings of the four year European funded EFFESUS project. Organised in five main chapters, the booklet contains a wide range of information to support communities in improving energy efficiency in European historic districts. It includes key project outcomes of EFFESUS such as strategies for energy assessment, the analysis of existing solutions, the development of innovative solutions and a software-based Decision Support System, as well as presenting non-technical barriers encountered and experiences of the case studies.

Proceedings of the National Symposia
In order to disseminate the project results during the course of the project three international symposia have been held. This report compiles the proceedings of the events in Munich (Germany), Ferrara (Italy) and Anglet (France).

Final Conference
Following the 9th project meeting, the final conference of EFFESUS took place on 24th June, 2016 at the Energiehuis in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. The project partners presented their results to about 100 attendees and discussed them lively. Posters of the results were presented in a exhibition room.
